Armagarden - Regenerative Community Design
What is Armagarden?
Armagarden was born from the desire to get back to the land and live a lifestyle that is connected to family, place and community. Through strategic design methods considerations are made through the design process towards food/water security, community resource management, and holistic design from a community perspective. With the recent increase in people desiring a homesteading lifestyle many realise that self-reliance is best when combined with the skills of their community. That we are stronger, more resilient, and can accomplish much more when we pool our resources, talents and skills together.
The community resilience is created with elements including food production, on-site (off-grid) energy production, infrastructure for community events, educational courses and sustainable construction and energy efficiency practices for all buildings.
Community Center
The Armagarden Regenerative Community Design will focus around a community events center used to host festivals, weddings, meals, education and training, or whatever comes to mind for the community. Incorporating buildings, gardens, food production and preparation, music, theater and other arts; the events center will be a place where the community can come together for celebration, knowledge sharing, skills development and entertainment.
Food Production
The use of permaculture designed food gardens and farming areas will enable diverse production of fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants to support the community. Within the scope of the Regenerative Community Design we will include food production on a scale to support the residents of the community, visiting guests and the wider local area for sales or donation of excess produce. The area needed for food production on this scale will depend on climate (rainfall and temperatures), growing season length and soil quality; all of which will be rigourously assessed as part of the design process. Permaculture food production methods create the potential for multiple yields within the same growing space; as well as increased yields due to improve pollination and soil quality by selection of the right support plants used within the space of the main trees and shrubs.
