RegenWorld - Austin, TX

The dynamic trio of Lindsay, Julia and Graham made our presence known at the first RegenWorld event held in Austin in March to coincide with the annual SXSW festival.

Lindsay was a keynote speaker and Q&A panelist and we had an exhibitor booth to display recent designs. We met some amazing people from far and wide, with lots of new strategic partnerships to be developed with other exhibitors at the event and a number of exciting projects that will result from new connections made.

It's the second time for us to meet Matt Powers who is one of permaculture's treasures with an encyclopedic knowledge of fungi and microscopy. We had a good in-depth chat with him for a couple hours on many subjects.

We also caught up with Alex Popp and Chanel Smith, part of our permaculture clan that we've established over the last couple of years.

Graham and Julia followed the event by visiting Rebecca and David Birdwell's beautiful small farm in Bastrop, getting to see some of the work they have done to install a design previously completed by Lindsay.

Lindsay followed the RegenWorld event by taking two weeks in Mexico to be trained in Thai massage!

Trochu Arboretum - by Lindsay

Video storytelling is one of my passions. I love taking drone photos and videos of sites and combining imagery to tell a story along with the narration of landowners and stewards.  Here's a beautiful example of a collaboration that I did with the Trochu Arboretum with my friends Kat and Jon. I went and spoke about permaculture there for Alberta Farm days in the summer and hope to do future design work and mapping for the society.

While it's a little while in the future, Graham and Julia will represent Permaculture Canada at a regional permaculture gathering in Michigan held July 11-13. Graham will be a speaker at the event discussing the economics of trial permaculture market gardens that he's constructed on his farm. The event is sponsored by Great Rivers and Lakes Permaculture Institute for which Graham is a board member. Come and join us there as the campgrounds at Heart Valley Springs are worth the trip!

Graham attended the Indiana Small Farms Conference in Danville, IN in March, sharing a booth with Steve Koontz of KeepItWatered.com, our strategic partner for aeroponics and indoor growing systems. The event was hosted by Purdue University and we've gained several new strategic partners and new customers from our attendance at this event.

Lindsay has completed several designs using the new Permaculture Canada design process, formats and methodology that Lindsay has been developing over the last year. Two designs completed recently include one for Graham's customer in Adrian, MI and another for a customer in southern California.

Graham will be a speaker at the above-mentioned Great Lakes Gathering held July 11-13 in Bloomingdale, MI.

For Nov 7-8, Graham has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the Rooted and Resilient Homestead Conference hosted by Purdue University's Noble County Extension Service. We'll provide updates and registration details in future newsletters. Graham will host an exhibitor booth and will also hold an additional lesson on the growing of fruit trees in the US Midwest.

In this edition we are featuring Jenn Ponder of BLL Culinary Gardens in New Jersey.

Jenn is an amazingly energetic lady who focuses on creating edible vegetable and herb gardens; and then, as a chef, she goes one step further and provides the training and education on how to prepare all the food into meals.

We are working in collaboration with Jenn to complement our permaculture designs with her annual gardens.
